Honoring The Craft

Roots of the Leaf, Legends Rolled Through Time
1
Alec Bradley
Alec Bradley was founded in 1996 by Alan Rubin, who named the company after his two sons, Alec and Bradley. In its early years, the brand struggled in a competitive post-boom cigar market, experimenting with different concepts that did not gain strong traction, including novelty and flavored offerings. Rubin eventually shifted focus toward more traditional, full-bodied premium cigars, working with established factories in Central America to refine the brand’s identity. The company’s major breakthrough came in 2007 with the launch of the Tempus line, which helped establish Alec Bradley as a serious player in the premium cigar segment and significantly increased its visibility among enthusiasts and retailers. Over time, the brand continued to grow internationally, gaining recognition for blends such as Prensado, which further solidified its reputation in the modern cigar market.
Camacho
After leaving Cuba following the Cuban Revolution, Simon Camacho established the Camacho cigar brand in Miami in 1961, building it around traditional Cuban-style cigar making and the use of Corojo tobacco. The brand became known for producing strong, full-bodied cigars inspired by pre-revolution Cuban blending techniques and craftsmanship. In 2008, Camacho was acquired by the Oettinger Davidoff Group, which repositioned the brand and expanded production in Honduras. Today, Camacho cigars are manufactured in Honduras using Honduran and other Central American tobaccos, while maintaining a reputation for bold, robust flavor profiles rooted in its Cuban-inspired heritage.
Cohiba
Cohiba is one of the most iconic Cuban cigar brands, created in the mid-1960s and originally produced exclusively for Fidel Castro and high-ranking Cuban officials. It was developed at the El Laguito factory in Havana using carefully selected tobacco from Cuba’s Vuelta Abajo region, which is widely considered the country’s premier growing area for premium cigar tobacco. The brand remained private and undistributed outside government circles until 1982, when Cohiba was officially introduced for limited international export under Habanos S.A. One of its distinguishing features is the use of a third fermentation process on select filler tobaccos, a technique intended to further refine the leaf and contribute to its smooth, complex character. Cohiba also produces several well-known lines, including the Línea Clásica and Línea 1492 (Siglo series), each offering different interpretations of its signature style. Today, Cohiba is regarded as the flagship of Cuban cigars and remains one of the most prestigious and globally recognized luxury cigar brands, closely associated with Cuban cigar-making tradition and craftsmanship.
Ernesto Perez-Carillo
Ernesto “Ernesto P.” Pérez-Carrillo is a Cuban-American cigar maker who originally pursued a career as a jazz drummer before entering the family cigar business in Miami. He went on to take over his father’s company, El Crédito, where he played a major role in building the reputation of the La Gloria Cubana brand during the cigar boom of the 1990s, establishing himself as one of the most influential modern cigar makers. After the business was sold in 1999, Pérez-Carrillo later founded E.P. Carrillo in 2009 alongside his children, launching a new boutique-focused brand and operating out of Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic. His work has since received widespread industry acclaim, with multiple releases earning top ratings and major recognition from cigar publications. Among his most notable achievements, his cigars have earned Cigar Aficionado’s No. 1 Cigar of the Year distinction multiple times, including with the Encore and Pledge releases, placing him among a very small group of makers to receive the honor more than once.
Monte Cristo
Montecristo is one of the most famous Cuban cigar brands, originally created in 1935 in Havana, Cuba, and named after Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo. It was developed by the Menéndez y García company, which also produced other well-known Cuban brands, and quickly became popular for its balanced, medium-bodied profile and consistent construction. The brand grew significantly in international reputation after the Cuban Revolution, when production was nationalized and Montecristo became one of the flagship names under Habanos S.A. It is closely associated with classic Cuban cigar formats, particularly the No. 2 torpedo and No. 4 robusto, which are among the most recognizable cigars in the world. Today, Montecristo is produced in both Cuba and the Dominican Republic, with Cuban versions made by Habanos S.A. and non-Cuban versions produced for global markets. It remains one of the best-selling and most widely recognized premium cigar brands worldwide.
Oscar Valladares
Oscar Valladares began his journey in the cigar industry in Honduras, initially working as a driver and guide for cigar company visitors traveling through the country’s tobacco-growing regions. Over time, his exposure to the craftsmanship and culture of premium cigars sparked a deep passion for the industry, eventually leading him into roles involving quality control and production. After facing significant financial hardship and personal debt, Valladares founded his own cigar company in 2012 with a vision rooted in Honduran pride, creativity, and traditional cigar making. His early breakthrough came with a Mayan-inspired cigar release that stood out for its unusual packaging, wrapped in a rustic tobacco leaf instead of conventional cellophane. The concept drew attention in the United States after retailer Jim “Island Jim” Robinson helped introduce the cigars to a broader audience, paving the way for the now-famous “Leaf by Oscar” brand. What began as a modest operation in Danlí, Honduras, has since grown into one of the most respected boutique cigar companies in the premium cigar industry.
Romeo y Julieta
The Romeo y Julieta cigar brand was established in Cuba in 1875 by Inocencio Álvarez and Manin García. Its international prominence grew after its acquisition in 1903 by José “Pepín” Rodríguez Fernández, a former Cuban cigar industry manager who helped expand and promote the brand throughout Europe and the Americas, building its global reputation among affluent cigar smokers. During this period, the brand became closely associated with British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, one of its most famous devotees, whose preference later inspired the naming of the “Churchill” vitola, now a standard cigar size still widely produced today. Following Rodríguez’s death in 1954 and the nationalization of Cuba’s cigar industry after the Cuban Revolution, Romeo y Julieta production was split between Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Today, it remains one of the most recognized premium cigar brands worldwide.

Arturo Fuente
Arturo Fuente is a family-owned premium cigar brand founded in 1912 by Arturo Fuente in West Tampa, Florida. The company originally produced cigars using Cuban-seed tobacco grown in Florida and quickly earned a reputation for quality craftsmanship, though operations were later disrupted by events such as factory fires and the Cuban embargo, which forced major changes in sourcing and production. In the 1980s, the Fuente family re-established and expanded production in the Dominican Republic under the leadership of Carlos Fuente Sr., partnering with the Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia factory in Santiago. This move allowed the brand to regain consistency and grow its portfolio, ultimately becoming one of the most respected names in premium cigars. Today, Arturo Fuente remains a multi-generational family business known for its strict quality control, limited production approach, and highly regarded lines such as Hemingway and OpusX, the latter of which helped redefine expectations for Dominican-grown wrapper tobacco.
CAO
CAO is a premium cigar brand originally founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1968 by Cano Aret Ozgener, whose initials form the brand name. The company began as a distributor of smoking accessories before moving into cigar production and building a reputation for innovative, globally inspired blends. Under the leadership of the Ozgener family, CAO became known for its creative approach to cigar making, often incorporating tobaccos from multiple countries such as Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Brazil. The brand gained significant international recognition in the 1990s and 2000s for releases that emphasized bold flavor profiles and unique blending concepts. Today, CAO operates under Scandinavian Tobacco Group and remains widely recognized for its diverse portfolio of cigars that highlight different regional tobacco styles and experimental blending techniques while maintaining a consistent presence in the premium cigar market.
Drew Estate
Drew Estate was founded in 1996 by Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel in New York City, beginning as a small kiosk selling cigars in the World Trade Center. In its early years, the company built a reputation for unconventional, small-batch cigars and a highly creative, youth-oriented branding style that stood apart from traditional premium cigar marketing. The brand gained major traction after relocating production to Nicaragua, where it developed signature lines such as Acid, known for its infused flavor profile, and later expanded into premium traditional cigars like Liga Privada. This shift helped Drew Estate grow from a niche, alternative brand into one of the largest and most influential cigar companies in the modern industry. Today, Drew Estate operates under the Swisher International portfolio and is widely recognized for both its infused cigar category leadership and its critically acclaimed premium blends, which are produced at its La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Nicaragua.
Gurkha
Named after the ferocious Nepalese “Gurkha” soldiers who impressed the British Army during the Anglo-Nepalese War of 1814, the Gurkha cigar brand traces its roots back more than a century and has become synonymous with luxury, exclusivity, and elaborate presentation. The modern incarnation of the company began in 1989, when entrepreneur Kaizad Hansotia famously acquired the brand for just $149 while vacationing in Goa, India. Under his leadership, Gurkha transformed from a little-known label into one of the world’s most recognizable premium cigar brands, often referred to as the “Rolls Royce of cigars.” Today, the company produces approximately eight million cigars annually and distributes them in more than 58 countries worldwide. Known for its ultra-premium blends, ornate packaging, and limited-edition releases, Gurkha helped pioneer the modern luxury cigar category and remains a staple among cigar enthusiasts seeking handcrafted, high-end smoking experiences.
My Father
From the fertile tobacco regions of Nicaragua, My Father Cigars is a family-run brand led by master blender José “Pepín” García, who is widely recognized for his Cuban training and influence in modern Nicaraguan cigar making. García is known for a hands-on, detail-driven approach to blending and production, shaped by decades of experience in traditional Cuban cigar craftsmanship. After establishing operations in Estelí, the García family built a vertically integrated factory overseeing tobacco cultivation, fermentation, and cigar production, allowing for tight quality control at every stage. Their work blends Cuban-influenced techniques with Nicaraguan tobacco to create a consistent, full-flavored style. Today, My Father Cigars remains a multi-generational operation, with García working alongside his children to produce highly regarded handcrafted cigars known for strength, complexity, and precision.
Perdomo
Perdomo Cigars is a family-owned premium cigar company founded by Nick Perdomo Sr., with operations rooted in Miami and later expanded to Nicaragua. The brand traces its cigar industry origins to the Perdomo family’s earlier involvement in Cuban cigar craftsmanship before the Cuban Revolution led to their relocation and rebuilding of operations abroad. In the 1990s, Nick Perdomo Jr. expanded the company significantly, establishing Tabacalera Perdomo in Estelí, Nicaragua, where the brand gained full control over tobacco growing, fermentation, and production. This vertically integrated approach allowed Perdomo to focus on consistency and value-driven premium cigars using Nicaraguan-grown tobaccos. Today, Perdomo Cigars is widely recognized for its box-pressed, medium-to-full-bodied cigars and is one of the larger family-run producers in Nicaragua, with a strong emphasis on estate-grown tobacco from its own farms.

Tatiana cigars are handmade in the Dominican Republic and are known for their infusion process, which incorporates a range of flavor profiles such as vanilla, cherry, honey, and rum.
